Our Reservation Procedure
![]() |
At Kireisa, all of our puppies are placed, by reservation only, with people who will offer stable, loving homes and who demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of the breed, along with the willingness to raise the puppy properly and responsibly, into and throughout its adulthood.
For this reason, deposits are only accepted after all parties (buyer and breeder) have had the opportunity to thoroughly discuss the breed and become comfortable with one another. For those living within driving distance, we encourage visits to our kennel so that prospective purchasers can meet the dogs (and us) and ensure that the Akita is truly a breed for which they are suited. For long-distance purchasers, we can communicate by e-mail and telephone. There is no obligation to either party at the initial stages of communication. Only when we, as breeders, are confident of the fact that the prospective purchaser will offer our puppy the best in terms of love, companionship, understanding, care and training, will we accept a deposit. In addition, we will only carry out breedings once we have several approved purchasers on reservation to ensure that all of our puppies will have good homes to go to. Indeed, it is not unusual for Kireisa purchasers to wait several months for their new puppy.
Once a deposit is accepted, purchasers will be kept informed of the status of upcoming litters by e-mail (we will send out "pupdates" to those purchasers having e-mail addresses), or by phone. We will advise once a pregnancy is confirmed, and again, when the litter is born. Throughout the time the puppies are being raised, we will keep in touch with purchasers to let them know how the litter is developing, and we will frequently update our website with photos on a "Puppy Page". Purchasers with reservations will be invited to see the puppies, for the first time, when they are approximately 5 weeks old. Firm selections are not permitted at this time; this is simply a "get acquainted" visit so that purchasers have some idea of the puppies' colours and a chance to see them interacting with their littermates. We will inform the purchasers of the character traits that are beginning to develop in the puppies, and offer our insight to help determine which puppies may be the best candidates for their family. If the buyers wish to proceed with their purchase, a second deposit is required at this time. All puppies are de-wormed regularly, and are vet checked, vaccinated and microchipped at about 8 weeks of age. Eye certifications are done on all puppies before leaving our home.

Final selection of the puppy, which occurs in order of reservation priority, commences at 9 weeks of age, or later, depending on individual circumstances. Purchasers are invited, by appointment, to come and spend several hours with us, in order to select the puppy who is the perfect match for them, and to complete the necessary paperwork (sales contract, Canadian and/or American Kennel Club registration forms, etc.). During this visit, we will discuss care, feeding, housebreaking, crate training, and any other questions the purchasers may have. An information binder full of relevant material is provided to the purchasers to take home. The balance of the purchase price is due, in full, at this time.
